Malaysia’s 2027 school holidays are organised into Group A and Group B. Group A covers Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu; Group B covers the other states and Federal Territories listed below. The supplied calendar places the four main school breaks in March, May–June, August–September and December, with most Group A breaks starting one day earlier.

This guide brings the academic periods, monthly school-day counts and additional festive holidays into one place, so parents can plan childcare and school teams can prepare their operating calendars.

Calendar source: The dates and school-day counts below reproduce the English translation of Kalendar Akademik Tahun 2027, attributed to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), supplied for this article. We could not independently locate the full original 2027 calendar on KPM’s portal at publication. Check your school’s notice and the KPM Surat Siaran portal for the original document or later amendments before making bookings.

How to read school periods and school-day counts

The date ranges above describe academic blocks. They include dates that may be weekends, public holidays or additional KPM holidays; they do not mean children attend school every day in the range.

The monthly school-day counts reproduce the supplied calendar. They should not be calculated by simply subtracting weekends. Likewise, a break described as “one week” or “two weeks” can span 9 or 16 calendar days once adjoining weekends are included.

For attendance, lesson planning and fee schedules, use your school’s confirmed teaching dates alongside the relevant state public holidays and additional festive holidays.

Additional festive school holidays in 2027

The supplied calendar lists additional KPM school holidays around Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Korban, Wesak and Deepavali. These extra school holidays are distinct from public holidays and the four scheduled school breaks.

Chinese New Year 2027

Chinese New Year is listed on Saturday, 6 February, and Sunday, 7 February 2027.

SchoolsAdditional KPM school holidaysNumber of additional days
Group A: KedahTuesday, 9 February; Wednesday, 10 February; Thursday, 11 February 20273
Group A: Kelantan and TerengganuMonday, 8 February; Tuesday, 9 February; Wednesday, 10 February; Thursday, 11 February 20274
Group BFriday, 5 February; Tuesday, 9 February; Wednesday, 10 February; Thursday, 11 February; Friday, 12 February 20275

The additional days differ even within Group A, so a notice intended for Kedah families should not be copied unchanged to Kelantan or Terengganu.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri / Hari Raya Puasa 2027

Hari Raya Puasa is listed on Wednesday, 10 March, and Thursday, 11 March 2027. Both dates fall within the Term 1 school holiday for Groups A and B.

Group A also receives one additional KPM holiday on Sunday, 14 March 2027. This is the opening date of the next academic block in the Group A table, so include it when communicating the return-to-school arrangement. No additional Group B date is listed in the supplied translation.

Hari Raya Aidiladha / Hari Raya Korban 2027

Hari Raya Korban is listed on Monday, 17 May 2027, with Tuesday, 18 May 2027 also listed for Kelantan and Terengganu only.

SchoolsAdditional KPM school holidaysNumber of additional days
Group A: KedahSunday, 16 May; Tuesday, 18 May; Wednesday, 19 May 20273
Group A: Kelantan and TerengganuTwo additional days are stated, but their dates are not specified in the supplied translation2
Group BTuesday, 18 May; Wednesday, 19 May 20272

For Kelantan and Terengganu, check the original KPM festive-holiday table or your school’s notice for the two additional dates before setting closures or replacement lessons.

Wesak Day 2027

Wesak Day is listed on Thursday, 20 May 2027. Group B receives one additional KPM school holiday on Friday, 21 May 2027, immediately before its scheduled mid-year break begins on 22 May.

Deepavali 2027

Deepavali is listed on Thursday, 28 October 2027, with the public holiday applying nationwide except Sarawak.

SchoolsAdditional KPM school holidaysNumber of additional days
Group AWednesday, 27 October 20271
Group B, except SarawakWednesday, 27 October; Friday, 29 October 20272
SarawakThursday, 28 October 20271

Sarawak’s 28 October date is listed as an additional school holiday. Keep that distinction clear when coordinating a school calendar with employers or external service providers.

Celebrations that fall within scheduled school holidays

Some celebrations already sit inside a term break. The supplied calendar highlights these dates:

Kaamatan Festival30–31 MaySabah and LabuanMid-year holiday

These dates fall inside the listed breaks; do not add them again when counting the break’s calendar-day duration.

A practical 2027 planning checklist for schools and centres

Once the school has confirmed its calendar, turn it into one shared reference for admissions, academics, finance and parent communication.

  1. Confirm the correct group and state exceptions. Record the source document, any later amendment and the person responsible for updates.
  2. Mark teaching days separately from academic blocks. Include applicable public holidays and extra KPM festive holidays, especially in February, May and October.
  3. Set staff and programme arrangements. Confirm closures, holiday care, enrichment programmes and staff leave before announcing dates to families.
  4. Explain changes to lessons and fees. Tuition and enrichment centres should publish whether a holiday changes a lesson, creates a replacement class or affects a charge under their own terms.
  5. Send one parent calendar with clear labels. Distinguish “school closed,” “holiday programme available” and “lessons resume.” Share corrections through the same approved channel.

For example, a Group B centre planning around Wesak should distinguish the additional school holiday on 21 May from the scheduled mid-year break starting on 22 May. A centre offering holiday care should state its own opening dates rather than assuming families will infer them from the KPM calendar.

For implementation advice, see our guides to tuition-centre timetable management, replacement classes and school parent communication policies. Our 2026 school-holiday guide remains available for the current year’s dates.

Keep families and staff working from the same calendar

A clear calendar helps families plan childcare and travel while giving school teams time to organise lessons, staffing and notices. Start with the confirmed Group A or Group B dates, then add the exceptions that apply to your school or centre.

Oodlins helps schools connect class and staff schedules with everyday operations and parent updates. Explore school management and parent communication, or book a demo to discuss your team’s planning workflow.
